48 Top Performers Compete to Win $1500 in Cash & Prizes Audience Tickets Qualify to Win $500 Bike
Competition Dates: Wednesday October 29th -- December 10th Rivertown Showdown Quarterly Final: December 17th

Columbus, GA -- The Loft Live announces Rivertown Showdown, a songwriter-performer competition. The inaugural Wednesday series begins Oct 29th and runs through December 10th, with the first quarterly final scheduled for December 17th. Music starts each Wednesday at 8:00pm with eight performers programmed nightly in fifteen minute slots. Judges will select finalists to perform an additional song or two, with the weekly winner and one finalist advancing to the December 17th "showdown".

The top contestant wins $500 in cash, an eight hour block of studio recording time and a new guitar. NSAI coordinator and Rivertown Showdown host Nona Christie comments, "We're getting terrific response from our homegrown talent as well as confirming competitors from Montgomery, Newnan and Atlanta -- we'll even have Nashville represented. Plus, the audience response will be factored into the overall score -- and, their tickets will be entered for a chance to win a bike from one of our sponsors." Veteran music promoter and proprietor of the Loft Entertainment Group, Buddy Nelms states "Our goal is to provide an exceptional entertainment evening for music fans in our region. Over the last sixteen years we've enjoyed stellar performances on our stage. I expect some of the forty-eight performances in this series will get added to our growing list of magical musical moments -- but, you have to be there to experience it!" Sponsors include The Loft Live, The Loft Recording Studio, Gorilla Guitars, Ride On Bikes, and Music In Columbus (MIC).

NSAI November Notes
From Nona:

VOTE FOR KENI

(Don't forget to vote for Keni Thomas on GAC everyday)

"It All Begins With A Song"
Our workshop this month is Tuesday, November 11 - 7 PM

Rivertown Showdown - Wednesday, November 5 - 8:00 PM
(THE LOFT) The first Showdown was GREAT. There was an
attentive audience that "listened" and showed respect
to all our songwriter/artist. Reminded me of The
Bluebird.

Two finalist were selected for the Big Showdown, Dec. 17. This week two more will be selected. The audience gets a chance to vote for "best performance".

Come out and support your fellow songwriters.
There are several slots left for each week...other than this one, so you can still sign up. Have a wonderful week. Hope to see you Wednesday.

JAZZ: Dallas Smith Quartet (Sun., Oct. 12 @ The Liberty Theatre)
The Columbus Jazz Society welcomes the Dallas Smith Quartet.

Dallas Smith will host the Columbus Jazz Society's October twelfth Jazz Jam at the Liberty Theatre. The performance by his quartet will feature well-known jazz standards as well as some of Dallas's own bop, Latin, and fusion jazz compositions.

Since 1975, Dallas has been a West Coast native whose diverse musical career includes symphony work, studio recordings, cruise ships, casino shows, and traditional and Latin jazz groups. Together with his wife, jazz harpist Susan Mazer, Dallas has recorded numerous CD's (www.mazerandsmith.com). Dallas has toured with noted jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal and, as a member of the Swedish world music group Mynta (www.mynta.net), he has recently toured Scandinavia and India.

Dallas currently resides in Reno, Nevada, where he and Susan founded a business, Healing HealthCare Systems, to promote the use of music to create a more healing environment within healthcare facilities. Their primary product is a 24-hour relaxation channel for hospitals, called The C.A.R.E. Channel (www.healinghealth.com).

Dallas, son of the late Judge Oscar D. Smith, Jr., began his musical education in Columbus with Dr. George Corradino at Wynnton Elementary School. After playing classical clarinet for ten years (at Richards Jr. High, Columbus High School, and Florida State University), Dallas broadened his musical focus to include jazz studies (on flute and sax). He has traveled the world in pursuit of his lifelong interest in East Indian classical music, performing extensively in Europe and India.
