Congrats for locals: Boris Abramov and Andy Hudson
(note: Boris is on the upoming MIC CD, "10 Songs from the Edge of Georgia")

Where last year we had one national winner of the Music Teachers National Association finals (Michael Sumuel, National Winner of the MTNA Young Artist Collegiate Voice Competition, who is currently a graduate student on full scholarship at Rice University), this year..

We have TWO!!

Boris Abramov, violin, is the national winner of the Senior Performance Competition String Category, and Andy Hudson, clarinet, is the Senior Performance Competition Woodwind Category winner.

Both Boris and Andy are juniors.

The 2007-2008 Music Teachers National Association Conference is being held in Denver Colorado. Boris and Andy will perform this afternoon (March 31) during the winners concert to be held at the Denver Hyatt Regency. Boris is a student of Sergiu Schwartz; Andy is a student of Lisa Oberlander.

I'm sure that having two winners from the same institution is unusual (I'll find out how unusual). Meanwhile, I'm sure you'll join me in congratulating these two young men, as well as their colleagues who joined them in the national competition.

Also: Here's a link to a new Schwob School of Music video--this one about the jazz program:
