FREE Fall Concert Series on Broadway Schedule

Shirantha Beddage, Saxophone (14 Oct. @ Liberty Theatre)
The Columbus Jazz Society is honored to present Shirantha Beddage, saxophone, October 14th.

Shirantha Beddage is an emerging talent who is swiftly making his mark as an accomplished multi-reed instrumentalist, pianist, composer, instructor and bandleader. Originally from Ontario, Canada, Mr. Beddage holds a Master's degree in Jazz Performance from William Paterson University in New Jersey, where he studied under baritone saxophonist Gary Smulyan. During his undergraduate studies at Toronto's Humber College, Shirantha studied with saxophonist Pat Labarbera. He received his Doctorate in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, under the tutelage of Ramon Ricker, Harold Danko, Bill Dobbins and others. Shirantha's debut album, "Roots and Branches", is available worldwide through Jazz Excursion Records ( The Rochester release of the album was accompanied by a feature performance at the Rochester International Jazz Festival 2006.

Pierre Vaillancourt, organ
Pierre is a retired band director of 32 years from Ontario, Canada. He performs regularly with various groups in Eastern Ontario and Quebec on both saxophone and piano, and leads his own big band "BODY AND SOUL". He has recently performed at the Ottawa International Jazz Festival and is in high demand as a band clinician in Ontario and Quebec.

Robert Orr, guitar
Robert is one of the most highly acclaimed jazz guitarists in the Southeastern United States. Robert has been a Nashville studio musician, Director of Jazz Studies at Northern Michigan University, Professor of Guitar at Auburn University, performed alongside famed drummer, Jabo Starks with the Red Bar Jazz Band, and founded and led one of Alabama's most enduring and successful rhythm and blues bands - Kidd Blue, based in Auburn. Robert recently toured with The Funkmasters, a group consisting mostly of James Brown's former sidemen. Robert holds advanced degrees in music composition and guitar performance from the University of Alabama and Auburn University.

Paul Vaillancourt, drums
Paul Vaillancourt is the Assistant Professor of Percussion at Columbus State University, is principal timpanist for the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra and performs regularly with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. He has performed with various groups in Russia, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Scotland, all over Canada and the US. He is a member of the Robert Orr Trio, who has just recently released its first CD, ALIEN JAZZ. Paul grew up performing in his father's various groups.
